Mini Price Storage, WVEC-TV, United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, and The Joy Fund, are sponsoring The Salvation Army’s local Christmas Deport. And thanks to this support they are poised to begin Christmas distribution on December 10 at 9:00 a.m. and serve more than 39,000 individuals in Hampton Roads communities this Christmas season.
The Christmas Depot, Mini Price Storage Warehouse at 4725 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach will see roughly 1,200 guests a day seeking toys, clothing, and food over the six and a half days of distribution.
Through its partnerships with The Joy Fund and the USMC’s Toys for Tots, The Salvation Army is able to provide more than 19,000 children with toys this Christmas and more than 8,000 families with food. The Salvation Army’s partnership with WVEC-TV 13News for Angel Tree will help provide clothing and apparel to the children registered for Christmas assistance. Angel Tree tags are due back to the Salvation Army on Thursday, December 6.
Across Hampton Roads, The Salvation Army has seen increases in the number of applicants as well as an increase in the number of families and children receiving assistance. The increase in families applying for assistance in 2011 was three and a half percent while the increase in children served was up five and a half percent. During distribution, The Salvation Army will serve approximately 60 families every 15 minutes beginning at 9:00 a.m. and closing at 4:00 p.m.
Distribution to registered families and individuals will run from Monday, December 10 through Monday, December 17 from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Depot will be closed on Sunday, December 16.
The Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command will hold its annual Ribbon Cutting event on Monday, December 3 from Noon to 1 PM to celebrate and thank its 2012 Christmas Depot partners.
