Moving Workout Equipment After Quarantine

Gyms have been closed for months, but they are finally starting to reopen. Since March, many have built a collection of equipment to create an at-home gym. Now, as their favorite gyms come back, they have to decide what to do with all of their new stuff. Whether you are transporting these items to another room or another address, it is much easier than others think with these great tips from Moving.com.

Before you wrap up your equipment, clean all surfaces to prevent bacterial growth. Wipe each yoga accessory with paper towels and an all-purpose cleaner or an all-natural spray solution. All other surfaces need wet wipes or a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar.

Start with your smaller items. These can include your yoga mat, yoga accessories, hand weights, dumbbells, and barbells. Roll your yoga mat and secure it with its strap or bag. This mat can be stored by itself. The rest of the smaller items will need boxes of their own. To protect your equipment, wrap each weight in either bubble wrap or newspaper and stuff blankets or towels between them. Use a good number of boxes to distribute the load. Consider using plastic boxes to ensure the weights will not fall out.

Your treadmill might be the hardest to move because of its weight. Luckily, these fold up rather quickly. Once the machine is unplugged, fold the treadmill with moving blankets and load it onto a hand truck. The hand truck will allow you to move the machine with ease if you have the help of a friend.

Ellipticals are more comfortable to maneuver. Once you disassemble the pedals and handlebars, it should be much lighter than the treadmill. You will probably be able to move this around alone.

Your stationary bike easily slides across the ground. Cardboard, towels, or furniture sliders should be used along the pathway of the bike to keep your floors safe. Use friends to lift the bike when need be.
