TV Moments with Self Storage

A new star has been coming to the rise in our midst. Self storage is hardly something you think would be on a TV show, but through the years, it has grown to become a prominent player. There are vital scenes and even entire series dedicated to self storage. Here are some of our favorite moments with self storage on the big screen.

Jerry Seinfeld, Season 8 Episode 10 “The Andrea Doria” (1996)

Highly regarded as one of the most successful sitcoms of all time, Seinfeld took one episode to warn about sharing your unit with unauthorized users. In this particular episode, Jerry Seinfeld rents a storage unit with his friend and neighbor, Kramer. They are surprised to find their unit soon is full of mailbags. Kramer gave his key to friend and neighborhood mailman Newman. This mailman isn’t good at his job and uses the storage unit as a way to stash the mail he needs to distribute. Seinfeld taught a critical lesson in that episode- keep the keys to your unit to yourself!

Breaking Bad, Season 5, Episode 8 “Gliding Over All” (2012)

Wildly popular TV crime drama series Breaking Bad shows the story of Walter White, a cancer patient, and high school teacher, and how he comes to rule a drug empire. He journeys from high school chemistry teacher to drug manufacturer and, subsequently, drug kingpin. The show became wildly popular and received critical acclaim, and many regard it as one of the best TV shows of all time, with 16 Primetime Emmy Awards. The show features a self storage unit during the middle of the season 5 finale. Walter’s wife brings him to a large pile of cash sitting in a self storage unit that his drug empire can not launder fast enough.

Storage Wars (2010-2021)

What happens if a storage unit has been abandoned? Not many could believe that a popular show on TV centered around self storage units. Storage Wars caught viewers’ attention by showing the gamble bidders take to see what is behind the storage doors. Bidders can see the piles of possible prices but can not enter the unit. The show initially aired for 12 seasons starting in 2010 but got an extra thirteenth season in 2021.

Auction Hunters (2010-2015)

Auction Hunters follows Allen Haff and Clinton “Ton” Jones as they travel through Southern California and other parts of the US for five seasons. They look for treasures inside self storage units up for auction, like in Storage Wars. They don’t always find lucrative items, but they do get lucky sometimes, and one episode found nearly $20,000 by way of a World War II firearm and a Russian space suit.
